Volcano Village has a farmer's market every Sunday, so we checked it out at about 7 a.m.
We picked up a few things, one of them being some smoked sausage that was just taken out of the smoker moments before. After we paid and were about to walk away, our man suggested that we fry it up so we don't get sick, lol. Thanks. (We fried it up to be safe, and it was delicious)
This is the Kilauea crater. It is still actively spewing rocks, about 500 feet into the air. We couldn't really see it through the steam, but since we couldn't park in the "normal" parking area due to the rocks being thrown, we took their word for it.
Here's a lava tube, something I was pretty pumped for. Basically, lava punctures the earth and goes through quick enough to create a tunnel. It looks like some mystical places where elves should live - in the middle of the forest, a sneaky little opening that takes you to the other side of the forest. Genius, elves, pure genius.
We drove down a road that goes to the ocean, and you can see the power of the lava flow, simply annihilating anything in it's way. It looks like life after some sort of armageddon.
