Who wakes up the roosters?

The day started at 3:50 a.m. local time, which is 9:50 at home but here, there is not much to do at that hour except for waking up other people that were sleeping.

Within an hour the kids were ready to go to the beach. Something like this:

Eventually, we were on our way to the beach in front of the place we rented. A nice little walk over a grassy knoll.
We arrived at the water and the kids went crazy. It was really rocky, but Leila was in there within seconds, absolutely loving it. Milena was also enamoured with the flow of the water and continued to chase and then run away from the water all day. Ethan would pick up rocks and throw them into the water. At one point, he kept running on top of them, wincing in pain, then kept on. I'm sure there's a metaphor for life in there.

While jumping around in the water, Ethan asked me if we could live here forever. It is day 1 and we're on an underwhelming beach and he is already dialed in. I might have shed a tear. And bought a house.

We headed over to Lahaina to check out the big town. Leila saw a "shave ice" sign and immediately begged to go there. Like any good parent, I caved to the slightest whim of my child and we enjoyed some shave ice. This might become a staple at our house.

We visited Banyan Court, which hosts the nicest Banyan tree around.
Pro tip: kids will play in this shaded area forever. I rented a motorcycle and cruised around the island and when I came back, they were still there playing happily. Only the first sentence here is true.

I found a local hockey rink and wanted to join the team, but apparently tryouts are in September and they didn't like my resume. I might need some more "real world experience" and try again next year.

We drove to Wailea, where Mandy and I first stayed during our honeymoon (though is it every really over??) and crashed into a bunch of waves, sometimes winning, most of the time losing. After all of that, the kids fell asleep pretty quickly. This gave the adults time to, well, fall asleep quickly as well.
